“Our enemies are not the masters, but ourselves. One is not born a slave or a master, one becomes one.”
The qualities of Placido Rizzotto are initiative, courage, and intelligence. He says: 'One is not born a slave or a master, those who want to become one will. We must stay united, comrades, because alone we cannot change things.' During World War II, he was sent to fight in the mountains of Carnia, in Friuli Venezia Giulia: from corporal, he was promoted to sergeant major and then to sergeant. After the armistice of September 8, 1943, he became a partisan, as a socialist. After the war, he became the secretary of the Labor Chamber in Corleone. He started denouncing the mafia. On the evening of March 10, 1948, at the age of 34, Placido Rizzotto was kidnapped by a group of mafiosos led by Luciano Liggio, who surrounded him in the street in Corleone, loaded him into a Fiat 1100, took him to a farm in Contrada Malvello, beat him senseless, and smashed his skull. They then made the body disappear, which would only be found on July 7, 2009, inside the Rocca Busambra sinkhole, in Corleone.
